Kupwara: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Bala on Tuesday visited the Lolab area to assess the impact of heavy snowfall that occurred during the intervening night of January 26 and 27.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed snow clearance operations on major and interior roads to ensure early restoration of connectivity. He also took stock of the restoration of essential services, including electricity, drinking water supply, healthcare facilities, and the availability of essential commodities.

Officers from concerned departments, including the ACR Kupwara and SDM Lolab, accompanied the Deputy Commissioner. Special emphasis was placed on the deployment of men and machinery by the Roads and Buildings Department, which has been working round the clock to clear snow and make roads motorable.

The Deputy Commissioner conducted surprise inspections of the NTPHC Lalpora and Sub District Hospital Sogam. He reviewed the functioning of doctors, paramedical staff, patient care services, emergency preparedness, and the availability of medicines and medical equipment to ensure uninterrupted healthcare for residents.

He also reviewed the power supply situation and directed concerned officials to ensure prompt restoration of electricity in affected areas.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner chaired a review meeting at the SDM Office Lolab, where he issued on the spot directions for close coordination among departments. He instructed the SDM Lolab to respond immediately to reports of critical issues, particularly medical emergencies, and to ensure timely deployment of snow cutters and rescue teams wherever required.

Tehsildars were directed to ensure proper parking of vehicles and to take action against improper parking on roads and public spaces, including market areas, which hampers movement.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the Chief Medical Officer Kupwara to ensure that all health institutions function round the clock with full facilities. He stressed the need for proper duty rosters of doctors, paramedical staff, and other employees to avoid inconvenience to the public.

He reiterated that the district administration remains committed to minimizing public inconvenience and providing all necessary assistance during the prevailing weather conditions.
