
SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday expressed profound grief over the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who died in a plane crash at Baramati airport in Pune district.
In a post on X, the LG’s office said, “It is with shock and deep sadness that I learnt about the untimely demise of Shri Ajit Pawar Ji. He was a widely respected leader committed to the well-being of the people and served Maharashtra with distinction. My condolences to his family and admirers.”

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed his shock on X, recalling his long association with Pawar. “Ajit da was an able administrator and a consummate political organiser whose loss will be greatly felt. I join my father in sending our condolences to Sharad Pawar Sb, Supriya, and the entire family,” he wrote.

Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, has died at 66. He was on board a charter plane that crashed during landing in Baramati. Pawar had a long political career, starting in the cooperative movement and serving as a six-term MLA from Baramati. He held key ministerial portfolios and was a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party.
