SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness another wet spell as a western disturbance is expected to affect the Valley from late Monday evening, officials said.
The Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy weather until the evening of January 26, after which light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely across most areas. A few places may receive moderate to heavy precipitation, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds.
On January 28, light rain or snow is expected at isolated locations, while weather conditions are likely to remain dry but cloudy over the following two days.
Travellers and transporters have been advised to check the status of highways and roads with the concerned traffic control units before commencing their journeys. Farmers have been asked to suspend agricultural activities until January 28.
Residents of higher reaches have also been cautioned against venturing into avalanche-prone areas.
Meanwhile, night temperatures across the Valley improved slightly due to cloud cover. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.1 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg was the coldest location at minus 9.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Pahalgam at minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, while other stations reported temperatures around minus 1.0 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, widespread snowfall overnight on Friday ended a prolonged dry spell across Jammu and Kashmir, covering large parts of the Valley. Snowfall was reported in multiple areas, though accumulation varied significantly from district to district.
