Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Monday said the morale of the country’s security forces remains strong despite ongoing challenges. He said their responsibilities have increased, particularly in curbing the drug menace and safeguarding youth from addiction.
Addressing the 77th Republic Day function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, Choudhary paid tributes to the Army, police, and other security forces. He said their sacrifices enable people to live in peace and security.
Referring to Pakistan, the Deputy Chief Minister said it has inflicted immense suffering on Jammu and Kashmir and has repeatedly tried to disturb peace and damage tourism. He said such attempts would never succeed.
Choudhary said the region has witnessed difficult phases in the past but is now steadily moving on the path of development. He said the prevailing situation in the Union Territory is peaceful and invited tourists from across the country and abroad to visit Kashmir.
He said Kashmir is fully prepared to welcome visitors and offers a safe and comfortable environment.
Highlighting the importance of January 26, Choudhary recalled that the Constitution of India came into force on this day in 1950, marking the country’s transition into a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. He also referred to the freedom struggle and the 1930 resolution that laid the foundation for complete independence.
The Deputy Chief Minister underlined the role of youth in nation building and expressed concern over drug abuse among sections of young people. He said the government is implementing focused measures to address the issue.
He referred to initiatives such as Mission Youth, digital empowerment platforms, skill development courses, entrepreneurship support mechanisms, and online learning modules. He said the government aims to make Jammu and Kashmir a leading skill hub in north India by 2030.
On industrial growth, Choudhary said new industrial estates and manufacturing units are being established in several districts. He added that work is underway on a local employment policy to ensure greater job opportunities for youth.
He said the government is expanding healthcare infrastructure with new hospitals, medical colleges, and specialised facilities. He also highlighted education sector initiatives aimed at improving access in remote areas and promoting girls’ education.
Choudhary said peace, development, and youth participation will remain the government’s core priorities.
