SRINAGAR: The culture and traditional arts of Jammu and Kashmir were prominently featured on the Kartavya Path during the 77th Republic Day Parade in New Delhi.

The Union Territory’s tableau highlighted the region’s craftsmanship and heritage, showcasing gleaming samovars with detailed metal engravings, intricately woven Kani shawls with symbolic motifs, hand-knotted carpets in geometric patterns, and finely carved walnut-wood artefacts.

Vibrantly coloured papier-mâché items and Pahari miniature paintings, particularly the expressive Basohli style, reflected centuries of artistic refinement and devotion. The display honoured local artisans whose skill and patience help preserve these living traditions.

Saffron blossoms, along with purple flowers and crimson strands, were included to symbolise Jammu and Kashmir’s enduring identity, deeply rooted in its land, culture, and heritage.

The tableau was accompanied by the harmonious sounds of the rabab, santoor, and flute, while performers in colourful attire brought the region’s folk dances to life.

Dances such as the graceful Rouf, the energetic Kud, and vibrant Pahari, Bhadarwahi, and Gojri performances showcased the cultural diversity, collective spirit, and joy of Jammu and Kashmir.
