52 Jammu Kashmir Police Officers, Personnel Honoured with Gallantry, Service Medals | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: As many as 52 officers and personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been conferred gallantry and service medals on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day, officials said on Sunday.

According to an official statement issued by a police spokesperson, 33 personnel were awarded the Medal for Gallantry for acts of bravery in the line of duty, while 17 officers received the Medal for Meritorious Service. In addition, two senior officers of the rank of Deputy Inspector General were conferred the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.

Among the recipients of the Medal for Meritorious Service are three Inspectors General of Police, Mohd Suleman Choudhary, Sujit Kumar, and Vivek Gupta. Other awardees include Deputy Superintendents of Police Himat Singh, Champa Devi Sharma, and Khushwant Singh; Inspector Anil Sharma; DSP Gurmeet Singh; Inspector Reyaz Ahmad Langoo; Assistant Sub-Inspector Sham Lal; Head Constable Gopal Singh; Inspectors Sardar Singh, Neeraj Kumar Koul, and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat; Constables Tawheed Ahmad Thoker and Shubh Kumar; and Assistant Sub-Inspector Balwinder Singh Bali.

The statement further said that Deputy Inspectors General of Police Haseeb Mughal and Nisha Nathyal were awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service in recognition of their exceptional contribution to policing.

Among those awarded the Medal for Gallantry are Deputy Superintendents of Police Javaid Ahmad Lone, Mohd Ashrif, and Mohan Lal; Inspector Younis Khan; Assistant Sub-Inspector Davinder Kumar; and Head Constable Shabeer Ahmad Narwaroo, along with several other officers and personnel across different ranks.

The gallantry awardees also include IPS officer Tanushree, Senior Superintendent of Police Shabir Nawab, and a number of inspectors, head constables, selection grade constables, and constables drawn from various districts and units of the force.

Meanwhile, DIG Mohd Haseeb Mughal, an IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service. A native of Bhaderwah in Doda district, Mughal holds a doctorate in botany from Jamia Hamdard University and has served in several key operational and administrative roles across Jammu and Kashmir.

He has earlier served as district police chief of Handwara, Kishtwar, Baramulla, Rajouri, and Srinagar, and was posted as Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar during the period between 2019 and 2021. He has also held positions including SSP Vigilance Jammu, SSP CID Kashmir, SSP Traffic National Highway, and DIG Rajouri-Poonch range. He is currently serving as DIG Traffic Jammu.

Mughal has previously received the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service, the Police Medal for Gallantry on three occasions, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry. He has also been awarded commendation discs by the Army Commander, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, Vice Chief of Naval Staff, and Director General CRPF.
