CM Omar orders restoring power supply, reopening roads

Srinagar, Jan 23: Amid inclement weather conditions following widespread snowfall, gusty winds and snow storms, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday evening chaired a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat here to review the overall situation across Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, CM Omar took a detailed assessment of the impact caused by heavy snowfall, rainfall, and strong winds that have prevailed since Thursday evening.

He appreciated the divisional and district administrations for their swift and effective response in minimising public inconvenience.

The CM directed them to maintain the same level of preparedness and coordination in view of the prevailing weather advisory to ensure uninterrupted functioning of essential services.

Emphasising priority restoration, CM Omar stressed that road connectivity and power supply must be restored at the earliest to avoid public hardship. He also sought regular updates on restoration measures to ensure seamless delivery of public services.

The CM directed the concerned authorities to carry out a timely assessment of damages caused by the inclement weather so that affected families are provided immediate assistance.

The meeting was attended by Minister Satish Sharma; Additional Chief Secretary to the CM, Dheeraj Gupta; Additional Chief Secretary, R&B, Anil Kumar Singh; IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Anshul Garg; Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo; Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb; heads of various departments, and other senior officers.

The Divisional Commissioner Jammu and all DCs from the Kashmir and Jammu divisions participated in the meeting through virtual mode and briefed CM Omar on the prevailing ground situation and the progress of restoration efforts.

This was followed by a district-wise appraisal by the DCs, focusing on the status of essential services, including electricity supply, drinking water, road connectivity, and other basic facilities affected due to snow accumulation and high-velocity winds across J&K.
