SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has sent three communications to the Punjab government regarding the harassment of livestock transporters, but has yet to receive any response, a senior official from the office of the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, JK, said on Wednesday.

The official said, “We have written thrice to Punjab, but there has been no reply or acknowledgement.”

“We had requested a government-level meeting to discuss the issue, but Punjab has neither responded nor scheduled any talks,” he added.

Reacting to the continued silence, a senior member of the Kashmir Mutton Dealers Association said that both governments are indulging in politics while traders continue to suffer. “They are just passing politics to each other and doing nothing. Are they really a government?” he said.

Traders alleged that livestock trucks continue to face harassment and extortion at Shambhu and Madhopur checkpoints. They warned of protests if the Punjab government fails to intervene. (KNO)
