Srinagar, Jan 20: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday welcomed the inauguration of the redeveloped Amira Kadal footbridge, terming it a significant addition to Srinagar’s urban infrastructure and an important step towards enhancing the city’s appeal for tourists.
In a statement, KCCI said that the modern redesign of one of Srinagar’s most iconic crossings not only improves connectivity but also adds to the aesthetic and cultural vibrancy of the city’s historic core. It said that well-planned urban infrastructure plays a crucial role in shaping visitor experience, particularly in heritage-rich cities like Srinagar.
KCCI said that projects which thoughtfully blend heritage elements with contemporary urban planning have the potential to attract both domestic and international tourists, encourage longer stays, and increase footfall in traditional markets and commercial areas.
It said the Amira Kadal redevelopment will benefit local businesses, traders, and service providers by increasing pedestrian movement and revitalising surrounding commercial hubs.
KCCI also felicitated Srinagar Smart City Limited, the Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Fazlul Haseeb, and the divisional and district administration for their coordinated efforts in completing the project and contributing to urban renewal in the city.
Reiterating its commitment to the promotion of tourism-led economic growth, KCCI expressed hope that similar initiatives will be undertaken across Srinagar and other urban centres of Kashmir. It urged sustained focus on creating people-friendly public spaces that reflect the region’s cultural identity while supporting tourism, trade, and livelihoods.
