SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has registered a case against an individual for allegedly cheating people by promising government jobs and issuing forged appointment documents.
Officials said the case was filed following a written complaint received at the EOW, Srinagar, in which the complainants accused a former police employee of collecting about Rs 23 lakh on the pretext of securing government employment.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly issued fake appointment orders and supplied forged documents, including identity cards, licences, appointment letters, and fabricated police and CID verification reports.
After receiving the complaint, the Economic Offences Wing initiated a preliminary enquiry. Officials said the probe found the allegations to be prima facie true, revealing that the accused had systematically duped the complainants of their money by providing fake job orders and false assurances.
Based on the findings, a formal case has been registered at Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar, under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code.
Further investigation is underway to identify the full extent of the fraud and any possible involvement of others, officials added.
