SRINAGAR: Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, convened a high-level meeting on Monday with senior officials to review the progress of key infrastructure and development works in the Legislative Assembly complex and MLA hostels.

The meeting covered the construction of a new Legislative Complex at Jammu, repair and renovation works in MLA hostels in Jammu and Srinagar, arrangements for the NeVA Seva Kendra for MLAs, and other ongoing development projects. The Speaker also reviewed the replacement of the digital sound system in the Assembly Hall at Jammu and the installation of lifts in MLA hostels.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary PWD (R and B) Anil Singh, Secretary Law, Justice Parliamentary Affairs Achal Sethi, Secretary JKLA Manoj Kumar Pandita, Director Estates, and other senior officials were present.

Abdul Rahim Rather directed officials to complete the new Legislative Complex within the stipulated 18-month timeframe, with work expected to commence within 10 days. He stressed the need for an uninterrupted digital sound system to ensure smooth proceedings during the upcoming Assembly session.

Officials assured the Speaker that repair, upgradation, and installation works, including lifts in MLA hostels, would be completed within the set timelines. The Speaker also instructed the vacating of government offices within the Assembly complex, noting that only Assembly-related offices should function within the premises.

Emphasising high quality and timely completion, Rather urged officials to expedite all works to ensure readiness ahead of the next Assembly session.
