SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday seized heavy machinery and vehicles allegedly involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the Khrew and Awantipora areas of south Kashmir.

Police said two L and T machines, one JCB and two tippers were seized during separate operations conducted by police teams from Khrew and Awantipora police stations.

In Khrew, a police party from Police Station Khrew, led by the station house officer, seized the machinery reportedly engaged in unauthorised excavation of minerals. In a similar action in Awantipora, a police team from Police Station Awantipora, under the supervision of the SHO, intercepted vehicles allegedly being used for illegal mining and transportation.

Officials said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Khrew and Police Station Awantipora, and further investigation has been initiated to identify those involved.

The police said the action was part of a sustained drive against illegal mining to protect natural resources and ensure strict enforcement of the law. The public has been urged to cooperate by reporting instances of illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, with police assuring confidentiality of informants and stringent action against violators.
