SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Protection Department on Friday rescued a black bear from the Rathsona area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Officials said that the bear had strayed into the vicinity of human habitation, creating panic among locals. Upon receiving the information, a team from the Wildlife Department rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation to prevent any harm to people as well as the animal.

After sustained efforts, the wildlife team managed to tranquillise and safely capture the bear. The animal was later shifted to a safer location as per standard wildlife protocols.

Authorities said the operation was carried out smoothly and no injuries were reported during the rescue. Locals appreciated the timely intervention of the Wildlife Department, which helped avert a potential human wildlife conflict in the area.

The department has once again urged inhabitants living near forest areas to remain cautious and immediately inform wildlife officials in case of wildlife movement near residential zones. [KNT]
