SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a highly productive and impactful year in 2025, taking decisive action against a wide spectrum of economic crimes across the Kashmir Valley. The agency said its efforts reinforced public confidence in governance and institutional systems.

During the year, EOW Kashmir successfully disposed of 100 FIRs involving serious economic offences, including fraud, cheating, forgery, and financial irregularities. Each case required meticulous examination of documentary and digital evidence, as well as close coordination with government departments, banks, and financial institutions.

The Wing also addressed public grievances, examining and resolving 1,270 complaints received from members of the public and government agencies. Appropriate legal action was initiated where necessary, while other matters were resolved through lawful guidance, ensuring procedural fairness and timely relief.

Preventive vigilance was another key focus. EOW Kashmir conducted 290 preliminary and miscellaneous enquiries to verify facts at an early stage, prevent escalation, and resolve disputes through legal clarification, reducing unnecessary litigation and conserving public resources.

Job-related frauds, including false promises of government employment and overseas job placements targeting unemployed youth, accounted for a significant portion of cases. The Wing also investigated land frauds, impersonation, document forgeries, and illegal job consultancies operating in the Valley.

Further, the agency probed cases of fraudulent insertions in revenue and service records, misuse of fake certificates to gain government benefits, misappropriation of public funds, and criminal breach of trust by public servants. Corporate and company fraud involving financial irregularities and deceptive business practices were also examined.

Organised networks of habitual offenders, land brokers, and professional fraudsters involved in systematic economic crimes were identified and booked under law, sending a strong deterrent message.

EOW Kashmir reiterated its commitment to protecting public trust and urged citizens to remain vigilant, reporting economic offences promptly to ensure a transparent and secure economic environment in the Valley.
