
SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Police on Saturday arrested a drug peddler in the Shopian area of south Kashmir and recovered nearly 900 grams of a contraband substance from his possession
A police party from Police Post Keegam intercepted a suspicious individual during naka checking at Haji Check Crossing. Upon searching him, officers recovered a charas-like substance weighing approximately 896 grams.
The accused has been identified as Shamim Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Poterwal Keegam. He was taken into custody on the spot.
Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 275/2025 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation has been initiated.
Police said the action is part of their ongoing drive to curb drug trafficking in the district. They have appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug peddling or other anti-social activities with the nearest police station.
