AIIMS Jammu has taken a major stride towards advancing healthcare delivery in the Union Territory with the successful initiation of Interventional Cath Lab services. The launch marks a significant milestone in the institute’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art, minimally invasive, image-guided therapies for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

The newly established Cath Lab is equipped with the latest Biplane Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) suite, capable of performing a wide spectrum of complex body, neurovascular and cardiovascular procedures. The multidisciplinary team comprises highly trained interventional radiologists, interventional cardiologists and anaesthetists, supported by skilled technologists and nursing staff. Key team members include Dr Ankit Prabhakar, Assistant Professor, Radio-Diagnosis; Dr Mayank Saini, Assistant Professor, Cardiology; Dr Shariq Shah, Assistant Professor, Neuro Radio-Diagnosis; and Dr Zubair Farooq, Assistant Professor, Cardiology.

The Department of Interventional Radiology has already been providing a range of non-vascular, image-guided procedures such as percutaneous biliary and drainage interventions, biopsies, and minimally invasive vascular therapeutic procedures using the DSA machine.

The first few brain angiograms have been successfully performed by the Interventional Neuroradiology team. The procedures included evaluation of a patient with suspected central nervous system vasculitis presenting with young-onset stroke of unknown etiology, and another case in which a para-ophthalmic aneurysm was diagnosed.

With the commencement of Cath Lab services, the Institute will now be able to offer advanced treatment options for brain strokes, aneurysmal bleeds, vascular malformations, and other vascular body interventions such as angioembolizations, in addition to comprehensive cardiac interventions for conditions including angina, arrhythmias and heart blocks.

Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Jammu, stated, “The successful initiation of advanced interventional procedures reflects our unwavering commitment to developing world-class specialty services that meet global standards while catering to the unique healthcare needs of this region. AIIMS Jammu continues to evolve as a centre of excellence for advanced, patient-centric healthcare.”

“The commencement of these interventions marks a significant milestone for the Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging at AIIMS Jammu and reflects our continued commitment to strengthening advanced diagnostic services for the timely and effective care of patients across the region,” said Dr Gita, Officer-in-Charge, Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, AIIMS Jammu.
