SRINAGAR: The Indian Boys’ Under-15 Volleyball Team has created history by winning the bronze medal at the ISF Under-15 World School Volleyball Championship held recently in Shangluo, China, with Nasir Aejaz Sufi from Baramulla playing a crucial role in the team’s landmark achievement.

The medal marks India’s first-ever appearance at the global championship under the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and represents a significant breakthrough for Indian school-level volleyball on the international stage.

India delivered a series of commanding performances during the tournament, dominating the group stage and demonstrating strong tactical discipline, resilience and teamwork against top international sides. The team’s consistent display culminated in a podium finish, earning widespread recognition for its competitive maturity.

Nasir Aejaz Sufi’s selection followed a rigorous national trials process, reflecting the expanding depth of talent emerging from India’s grassroots sports system. The Baramulla-based player received his early training under the Department of Youth Services and Sports, before undergoing intensive preparation at the national coaching camp ahead of the championship.

Officials described the achievement as a major milestone for Indian school sports, noting that the performance underscores the effectiveness of structured talent identification and sustained training programmes.
