SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday called on schools and higher educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir to adopt a singular objective — to “create unique individuals for future challenges” — as the world undergoes rapid transformation driven by emerging technologies.

Speaking at the 40th anniversary celebrations of Lawrence Public School at Abhinav Theatre in Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor said educational institutions must equip students with creativity, curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to remain relevant in a technology-driven era.

He commended Lawrence Public School for its legacy of holistic learning, its enduring values and its contribution to producing successful alumni who “are proudly serving the nation”. Sinha said curiosity and critical thinking remain students’ greatest strengths, urging teachers and parents to allow children to pursue learning aligned with their interests and abilities rather than external pressure.

The Lieutenant Governor stressed that the education sector must prioritise four essential pillars — access, equity, quality and outcome. He said the dual goals before educators were to make students both “college-ready and future-ready”, noting the need for continuous familiarisation with evolving skills to shape 21st-century global citizens.

Highlighting the transformative role of technology, Sinha said the introduction of artificial intelligence would revolutionise classrooms by allowing teachers to use data analysis to better understand student capabilities and offer personalised mentoring. He added that hybrid classroom models, using digital platforms, would make technology-led education more widely accessible.

Sinha said the role of teachers would evolve from information providers to mentors tasked with instilling creativity, essential skills and moral values. This included grounding students in traditions, language, compassion, non-violence and brotherhood alongside modern competencies.

During the event, the Lieutenant Governor felicitated women achievers for their contributions in various fields. The celebration was attended by Minister Satish Sharma; Wg Cdr MM Joshi (Retd.), Chairman of Lawrence Public School; Managing Director Manish Joshi; Trustee Manya Joshi; Principal Shivani Joshi; faculty members; students; and parents.

Legislator Devyani Rana, former Minister of State Priya Sethi, Padma Shri SP Varma, Lt Gen RK Sharma (Retd.), heads of institutions and senior officials were also present.
