SRINAGAR: Kashmir experienced a severe cold wave as minimum temperatures dropped sharply across the region, with Srinagar recording its coldest night of the season at –4.4°C. Several districts, including Shopian, Pulwama, Baramulla and Anantnag, also witnessed intense sub-zero conditions.

According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, Shopian remained the coldest in the Valley at –6.5°C, followed by Baramulla and Pulwama at –5.8°C each. Pahalgam recorded –5.0°C, while Srinagar Airport dipped to –5.2°C. The Zojila Pass registered the harshest conditions with a minimum of –16.0°C.

In the Jammu region, temperatures remained comparatively milder. Jammu city recorded 8.7°C, while Banihal dropped to –1.5°C and Bhaderwah touched 0.4°C. Katra and Kathua settled at 8.5°C and 8.2°C respectively.

Ladakh continued to reel under severe cold, with Kargil recording –9.5°C and Leh –8.6°C. Nubra also remained frigid at –7.7°C.

The widespread plunge in temperatures indicates the intensifying winter conditions across the Himalayan regions, with authorities advising residents to take necessary precautions amid the continuing cold spell.
