MP Agha Ruhullah Warns of Agitation if Reservation Issue Not Settled by Dec 20 – Alfaaz – The Words

Srinagar: Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Monday urged the government to immediately resolve the ongoing reservation issue affecting students across Jammu & Kashmir, warning that he will join the student protests if the matter remains pending after December 20.

In a post on X, Ruhullah said the long delay had created deep anxiety among aspiring youth and questioned how long it would take for the authorities to acknowledge the “agony and hopelessness” they were facing. He said even the recent incident involving a student at Vaishno Devi University should have alerted the administration to the seriousness of the situation.

The MP recalled that the government had promised to settle the matter within six months last year, but “those six months have now stretched into a year.” Before the Budgam Assembly election, officials again assured that a solution was only days away, but, he said, “those few days have now turned into more than a month.”

Ruhullah also questioned who would take responsibility for the academic years lost and the vacancies that can no longer be recovered. He said he feared that “personal egos” might be contributing to the delay and stressed that an entire generation should not suffer because he has been raising his voice on their behalf.

To avoid being seen as an obstacle, Ruhullah said he would step back for the next month and urged the government to meet the students directly and resolve the issue through dialogue.

However, he made it clear that if the government fails to act by the end of the Parliament session on December 20, he will once again stand with the students “as we did last December,” adding that this time the protest “will not be just for a single day.”
