LG, CM, Political Leaders Condole Loss of Lives – Alfaaz – The Words

Srinagar: Political leaders across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday expressed profound grief over the tragic accidental explosion at Nowgam Police Station, which claimed nine lives and left more than two dozen others injured late Friday night.

The blast occurred at around 11:20 pm in an open section of the police station where explosive material recovered during the ongoing investigation of the Delhi Red Fort car blast case.

According to Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, the explosion happened during the sampling of highly sensitive material. He appealed to the public to refrain from speculation, stating that a formal inquiry has already been ordered.

“Despite utmost caution, an accidental explosion occurred during the sampling process,” the DGP said, confirming that among the deceased were an SIA officer, three FSL personnel, two photographers, two revenue officials, and a tailor.

A total of twenty-seven police personnel, two revenue officials, and three civilians were injured. The police station building suffered extensive damage, with nearby residential and commercial structures also affected.

Taking lead, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep anguish over the tragedy. In a post on X, he conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the swift recovery of the injured, and reiterated that the administration stands firmly with the affected families. He also confirmed the initiation of a probe to establish the precise cause of the blast.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah termed the incident “deeply sorrowful” and extended sympathies to all families who lost their loved ones. He also wished speedy recovery to the injured.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said she was deeply anguished by the incident, noting that the tragedy underscores the challenging circumstances under which police and technical teams operate while safeguarding public safety. She extended her condolences and prayed for strength to the families.

People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone described the explosion as “heartbreaking,” offering prayers and solidarity to the affected families.

Leader of Opposition and BJP senior leader Sunil Sharma also expressed sadness over the loss of lives and conveyed condolences to the bereaved households.

J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra said he was profoundly pained by the tragedy and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.
