SRINAGAR: The Jammu Kashmir government has completed 202 of the 213 projects undertaken under the World Bank-funded Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP), with ten works still in progress and one at the tendering stage. The administration has spent Rs 1580 crore so far on the initiative, which aims to rebuild and strengthen critical infrastructure damaged in the devastating 2014 floods.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level review meeting today to assess the status of the remaining projects and directed that all works be completed well before the extended deadline of August 2026. He instructed the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) to submit weekly progress reports and ensure strict adherence to timelines.

During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary (Planning) Dr Ashish Chandra Verma provided an overview of progress under the project. ERA Chief Executive Officer Shreya Singhal informed that work on the additional block at LD Hospital in Srinagar has reached 20 per cent completion and is expected to achieve the base isolator level by December 15, with pre-engineered components being fabricated in Haryana for rapid installation.

She further said that five bridges in Baramulla district — at Shrakawara, Wahdina, Wazamohallah (Kreeri), Wagoora, and Trikolbal Pattan — are at an advanced stage and will be completed by December 2025. The State Emergency Operation Centre has achieved 80 per cent civil and 35 per cent electromechanical progress, while procurement of additional equipment for the Bone and Joint Hospital has been expedited.

Consultancy work on the feasibility study and Detailed Project Report for flood mitigation and comprehensive river management of the Jhelum and Tawi basins is also progressing as per schedule.

Reiterating the importance of timely execution, Dulloo stressed continuous monitoring, inter-departmental coordination, and proactive removal of bottlenecks to ensure that all remaining JTFRP works are completed within the deadline, thereby enhancing Jammu and Kashmir’s resilience against future disasters.
