SRINAGAR: A group of activists from Maharashtra on Friday held a rally and performed a Nukkad Natak (street play) at Srinagar’s iconic Lal Chowk to raise awareness about drug abuse.

The campaign, organised in collaboration with a local trust, sought to draw attention to the escalating threat of narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and its devastating impact on young people.

Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the participants demanded that the Public Safety Act (PSA) be invoked against those involved in drug trafficking networks.

“Drug trafficking is not merely a social problem; it poses a grave threat to national security,” said one of the organisers. “We are here to stand in solidarity with the people of Kashmir and to raise a united voice against this growing menace.”

Local volunteers and social activists also took part in the rally, describing it as a “symbol of unity and shared responsibility” between different states in tackling the drug crisis. The street play depicted the harmful effects of addiction on families and society, earning applause from spectators gathered near the Clock Tower.
