SRINAGAR: The District Information Centre Kupwara has issued a circular directing all media persons operating in the district to submit their credentials within seven days as part of a new verification drive aimed at curbing misuse of media identity.

The circular, issued under number INF/DIC/K 1120-23/2025 dated November 3, 2025, follows directions from the Joint Director Information Kashmir. It mandates that journalists submit their information and credentials as per a prescribed checklist to the District Information Officer (DIO) Kupwara within a week from the date of issuance.

According to the circular, the move is intended to protect the sanctity of journalism and prevent impersonation by fake journalists, thereby ensuring a transparent and accountable system for bona fide media professionals in the district.

The DIO has further stated that only validated and authenticated media persons will be permitted to attend official government functions, press conferences, and cover visits of VIPs or VVIPs within Kupwara district. The order makes it clear that unauthorized or unverified individuals will not be entertained under any circumstances.

Copies of the circular have been forwarded to the District Magistrate Kupwara, Director Information and PR JK, Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara/Handwara, and the Joint Director Information Kashmir for necessary action.
