
SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday felicitated the winners of the Kashmir Marathon-2025 at a ceremony in Srinagar, celebrating the spirit of unity and fitness among participants from across India and abroad.
The event, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, featured Full and Half Marathons of 42 and 21 kilometres respectively, drawing around 1,100 runners from 27 States, Union Territories, and 11 foreign countries.
Addressing the participants, marathon enthusiasts and officials, the Lieutenant Governor said the event reflected “the soaring spirit of 1,100 runners” and its ability to promote unity and brotherhood through shared experiences.
“Within two years since its launch, the Kashmir Marathon has become one of the most prestigious running tournaments in the country. It has infused pride and passion among people, inspiring a new generation of runners,” Sinha said. He added that the marathon would play a significant role in promoting tourism and serve as an economic catalyst for the Union Territory.
Highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s transformation since 2019, the Lieutenant Governor told international participants that the changes had been made possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Jammu and Kashmir is the crown jewel of India with its rich heritage and vibrant culture. I am grateful to the Prime Minister for the historical transformation of this land, which now harmonises modernity and spirituality,” Sinha said.
He urged people to use the international event as an opportunity to showcase the Union Territory’s cultural heritage, arts, crafts, and tourism potential on the global stage.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Tourism Dr Ashish Chandra Verma, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, DIG Central Kashmir Range Rajiv Pandey, SSP Srinagar Dr GV Sundeep Chakravarthy, and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, along with other senior officials.
Film actor Suniel Shetty, sportspersons, and a large number of citizens also participated in the event.
