SRINAGAR: Actor Nimrat Kaur visited her father Major Bhupender Singh’s memorial in Kashmir on his 73rd birth anniversary, marking an emotional homecoming to the place where he laid down his life in the line of duty. Major Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, was martyred while resisting militants in Kashmir on January 23, 1994.
Sharing glimpses from her visit on social media, Nimrat wrote that a year ago, on the same day, the Indian Army had immortalised her father’s life journey at his birthplace, Mohanpura in Rajasthan. “What we didn’t know then was that within a year, we would witness a further cementing of that dream on the soil where he was martyred,” she said.
During her visit, Nimrat and her mother paid respects at two memorials — one at the Beacon headquarters in the Srinagar Cantonment, and another at the ‘Titanic View Point’ on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, where Major Singh last served and where the family had spent their final days together.
The actress also expressed gratitude to the Border Roads Organization for honouring her father’s memory. “The transcendent quality of this entire experience, seeing his form and name immortalised, is something words can never accurately describe,” she wrote, reflecting on the deep personal significance of the visit.
Remembering her father’s legacy, Nimrat called his sacrifice a “lifelong legacy of goodwill” for the family and recalled his battalion’s war cry, “Agrani Ajay — a true Bengal Sapper’s war cry.” Her tribute concluded with a heartfelt message: “Happy birthday, Papa…”
Through her words and images, Nimrat Kaur turned her father’s remembrance into a moving celebration of courage, service, and enduring love.
