Srinagar: Following Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone’s allegations of a “fixed match” between the National Conference (NC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Rajya Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik has now echoed the same charge, accusing the NC of deliberately helping the BJP secure the fourth seat.
Lone, who abstained from voting, had earlier written on X that the voting numbers clearly indicated coordination between the two parties. “So BJP wins the fourth seat. As predicted — fixed match. Axis of the evil. NC and BJP,” he wrote, adding that abstaining spared him embarrassment. He questioned why the NC’s third candidate polled 31 votes when only 28 or 29 were required, suggesting cross-voting and rejected ballots had tilted the result.
Following Lone’s remarks, Malik, who remains incarcerated under PSA, directly accused the NC of betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Malik said he voted “against communal politics and for unity and justice,” but alleged the NC’s actions exposed its duplicity once again.
“NC–BJP Fix Match! NC has betrayed the people of J&K for decades. They didn’t even need my vote even then, I voted against communal politics and for unity and justice. But NC deliberately cast extra votes on the 3rd RS seat to help BJP win the 4th a clear fix match! Now, Can we expect the newly elected Rajya Sabha members to raise their voice for the restoration of Statehood to Jammu & Kashmir? This time, NC cannot afford to deceive the people again on the issue of Statehood. reads Malik’s X post.
