SRINAGAR: Kulgam Police on Friday attached a residential property belonging to a notorious drug peddler, Shahzad Ahmad Dar, under the NDPS Act, as part of its ongoing crackdown on the financial networks sustaining the illegal drug trade in the district.

According to an official statement, the property belonging to Dar, son of Late Mohammad Rajab Dar, resident of Vedow Mishipora, was attached under the provisions of Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985. The accused was earlier booked in FIR No. 62/2021 under Sections 8/15-29 NDPS Act at Police Station Qaimoh, in which 520 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered from a load carrier. He was subsequently detained under the PIT NDPS Act and is currently lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu.

During the investigation, police found that Dar had accumulated assets worth around Rs 36 lakh from the proceeds of drug trafficking. The single-storey residential house at Vedow Mishipora was attached in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and local residents.

Officials said the action forms part of Kulgam Police’s sustained efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure of the narcotics trade in the district. The initiative was widely welcomed by residents, who praised the police for its firm measures against the growing drug menace and expressed hope that such steps would deter others from engaging in illegal trade.

SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Choudhary said that the action against drug peddlers will continue with full intensity, asserting that no one would be allowed to benefit from the proceeds of crime.

The police have urged the public to share any information regarding drug peddling or trafficking in their localities and assured that such information will be treated confidentially. The statement emphasised that community cooperation is vital in the collective fight against drug abuse.
