SRINAGAR: Eight faculty members from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar have been ranked among the World’s Top 2 per cent Scientists for 2025, according to a global citation list prepared by Stanford University, USA.

Stanford list places eight NIT Srinagar professors in global top 2 per cent scientists on September 22, 2025

The annual ranking, regarded as one of the most credible indicators of research excellence, evaluates scientists worldwide on the basis of citation records, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted h-index, career-long impact, and single-year performance. The updated database (Version 8), published on September 19, 2025, includes data from Scopus up to August 1, 2025, covering citation records until the end of 2024.

The NIT Srinagar faculty members who made the list are Prof MF Wani (Mechanical Engineering), Prof MA Shah (Physics), Prof Bashir Ahmed Mir (Civil Engineering), Dr Neeraj Gupta (Electrical Engineering), Dr Vijay Kumar (Physics), Dr Sandeep Samantaray (Civil Engineering), Dr Pravan Kumar Katiyar (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering), and Dr Sandeep Rathee.

The rankings are compiled by a team led by Prof John PA Ioannidis of Stanford University and published jointly with scientific publisher Elsevier. They also account for self-citations and retracted papers, providing field-specific percentiles across 22 scientific domains and 174 subfields.

Congratulating the faculty, NIT Srinagar Director Prof Binod Kumar Kanaujia said the recognition was “a matter of immense pride” and a reflection of the institute’s growing research profile. Registrar Prof Atikur Rehman said the achievement would inspire students and young scholars “to pursue innovative work and strive for excellence.”

The single-year rankings assess impact within a specific year, while career-long rankings evaluate overall academic contributions.
