SRINAGAR: The Government Ayurvedic Medical College (GAMC) Akhnoor has been granted seven new postgraduate degree programmes with a total intake of 35 seats, marking the first such provision for Jammu and Kashmir.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha described the development as a “huge gift for aspirants of Ayurveda practices in the Union Territory” and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, for their support.
In a statement, the Lieutenant Governor said the move would further strengthen the health architecture of Jammu and Kashmir and popularise traditional medicine. He noted that Ayurveda, with its growing global acceptance, continues to offer preventive and holistic care for body, mind and spirit.
Officials said the introduction of PG courses in Ayurveda is expected to boost research, collaborations, and human resource development in the field, while providing new opportunities for students in the UT.
