6.5 kg heroin worth Rs 40 crore seized near IB in Jammu

Jammu, Feb 14: In a major drug haul in Jammu region, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu Kashmir Police in a joint operation on Saturday recovered approximately 6.582 kg heroin worth Rs 40 Cr from the wheat fields in R S Pura sector along the International Border (IB) in Jammu.

The seizure of such a huge quantity of heroin, suspected to be drone-dropped from Pakistan, was made during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched on an input about suspicious drone activity near the IB.

“In a significant achievement on the anti-drug trafficking front, Police along with 165 Battalion BSF, achieved a major breakthrough and recovered a huge quantity of narcotics (suspected drone dropping) worth Rs 40 Cr in R S Pura sector of district Jammu near International Border,” Police said.

“Acting promptly on inputs by 165 Bn BSF regarding suspicious drone activity near International Border, a Cordon and Search Operation was launched jointly by Jammu Police and 165 Bn BSF during the intervening night of February 13 and 14, 2026 at Nai Basti Karotana, Baspur area of R S Pura sector near International Border,” Police added.

During search at first light, according to the Police, two yellow-coloured packets of narcotics were recovered from the wheat fields at Nai Basti Karotana, near the International Border.

“It is suspected to be a drone-dropping from Pakistan in the Indian territory. Each packet appeared to contain a heroin-like substance. Recovery memo has also been prepared in the presence of the magistrate. The recovered packets contain appropriately 6.582 kg heroin-like substance worth Rs 40 Cr in the international market,” the Police said.

In this regard, a case FIR No 36/2026 under section 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered in R S Pura Police Station and investigation of the case was taken up by SHO R S Pura, Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar, assisted by in-charge BPP Baspura, SI Ranbir Singh, under the supervision of SP Headquarters, Jammu.

“Further investigation is underway to trace the exact source and destination of the recovered contraband. Police are thoroughly examining both the backward and forward linkages in the case and more breakthroughs are expected,” Police said.

Police have also urged the citizens, including those residing near the International Border, to come forward with any information regarding illegal drug activities in their vicinity.
