
SRINAGAR: Intensifying its drive against narcotics, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested five drug peddlers in separate operations in Awantipora, Pulwama, and Shopian, recovering over 13 kilograms of contraband substances from their possession.
According to police, a team from Police Station Pampore, led by the Station House Officer and supervised by the SDPO Pampore, intercepted three suspects during routine patrolling at Chandhara Nambal in Awantipora. On searching them, officers recovered 8 kilograms and 925 grams of charas powder. The accused have been identified as Raiees Ahmad Sheikh and Prince Ahmad Mir, both residents of Chandhara, and Manzoor Khan of Drangbal, Pampore. They were arrested on the spot, and a case under FIR No. 118/2025 has been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at Police Station Pampore.
In Pulwama, a police team from Police Station Kakapora intercepted a suspect at a checkpoint in Okhoo Kakapora. The individual, identified as Abdul Majeed Wani of Nihama, was found carrying 2.765 kilograms of a banned substance. He was arrested, and a case under FIR No. 71/2025 has been registered for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in Shopian, police at a checkpoint in Maldera Zainapora stopped a vehicle (WagonR, registration number JK18-6181) driven by Umar Maqbool Parra of Humhona Nagbal, Zainapora. During a search, charas weighing approximately 1.326 kilograms was recovered from the vehicle. The accused was arrested, the vehicle seized, and a case registered under FIR No. 108/2025 at Police Station Zainapora.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information related to drug peddling or anti-social activities to the nearest police station or by dialling 112.
