Srinagar: The Kupwara district administration has intensified its disciplinary measures against absenteeism, issuing show-cause notices to 48 government employees found absent during surprise inspections this week.
On the instructions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, inspection teams led by the ADC, ACR, SDMs, and Tehsildars visited various offices across the district to assess punctuality and staff attendance.
Officials said 48 employees were caught absent ‘without authorization’. Taking serious note of the issue, the administration has directed the erring employees to explain their absence within a stipulated time, warning of strict disciplinary action in cases of habitual dereliction of duty.
Reiterating that government employees are public servants first, DC Suse stressed the importance of punctuality and accountability in delivering efficient services to citizens. He also instructed controlling officers to strengthen monitoring mechanisms, adding that surprise checks will continue in the coming days.
