
Jammu, Mar 23: J&K Government has constituted a 4-member committee for monitoring and implementation of Road Safety Policy, in the Union Territory.
The panel will have Administrative Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department as its chairperson and Administrative Secretary, Transport Department; Inspector General of Police, Traffic, J&K as its members. Transport Commissioner, J&K will be its member secretary.
The committee as its terms of reference will monitor the implementation of the Jammu and Kashmir Road Safety Policy-2025 across the Union Territory, including review of progress made by the concerned departments and agencies in achieving the objectives of the Policy. Besides, it will review and recommend engineering and road safety measures for improving road infrastructure, traffic management, signage, road markings and other interventions.
It has also been mandated to identify black spots, hotspots and formulate an action plan for their rectification, in coordination with the concerned executing agencies and to periodically review the status of these remedial measures.
To review the planning, implementation and operationalisation of Integrated Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) and Intelligent Traffic Light Systems (ITLS) in Jammu and Srinagar cities and their expansion to other towns of the Union Territory and to make such recommendations as may be necessary for strengthening road safety management and improving emergency response to road accidents in the Union Territory will also be the mandate of the panel.
