
Srinagar: Shopian Police arrested two women drug peddlers and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances during a naka checking operation at Melhura Zainapora, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Wachi.
According to a police statement, a naka party intercepted two women moving under suspicious circumstances while carrying large bags. Upon searching the bags, the police recovered 15 kilograms of crushed cannabis and 1 kilogram of charas-like substance.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rubeena Akhtar, resident of Rakhi Litter, Pulwama, and Nargis Jan, resident of Kawani Dagripora, Pulwama.
Following the recovery, a case (FIR No. 92/2025) under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora. An investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and expose the broader network involved in the illicit trade.
The Shopian Police reiterated its firm commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and appealed to the public to support its efforts in curbing the drug menace.
