Ramban, Jul 30: Ramban Police recovered the bodies of two government teachers from a gorge in a flooded Nullah in the Jalebi Morh area on the Patnitop – Nathatop – Sanasar link road on Wednesday.
According to officials, it is presumed that their bike was slipped and both were swept away in flash- floods while travelling on their Motorcycle from Sanasar to Patnitop on Tuesday evening during heavy rains in the area.
Police sources said that at around 9:30 am, information was received at Police Post Patnitop of Batote about a blue motorcycle bearing registration number (JK14D-9667) lying down the roadside near Jalebi Morh.
“It was suspected that someday has got washed away in the Nallah due to flash floods in the area,” the official said.
The Police official said, after receiving the information, Police teams from Police Post Patnitop, Police Station Batote, Sanasar Picket and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) headquarters Ramban rushed to the spot along with SDRF personnel.
“A thorough search of the flooded Nallah was carried out during which two male bodies were recovered. One body was found about 150 meters and the other about 300 meters away from the roadside,” the official said.
Police said both of the deceased were government school teachers from Ghordi, Ramnagar of Udhampur district.
“They had been attending a three-day training programme at District Institute of Education Training (DIET), Kud since July 29, 2025. After attending classes on Tuesday, they proceeded towards Sanasar on the same motorcycle,” the Police official said.
According to the locals, both the deceased teachers were seen in the Sanasar area around 7:30 to 8pm amid heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
Police identified both the deceased as Jagdev Singh son of Kartar Singh and Sanjay Kumar son of Bodh Raj, both residents of Ghordi, Ramnagar of Udhampur district.
Police said FSL teams and crime photographers were called to the scene.
Later the bodies were taken into police possession for autopsy and other legal formalities.
Police officials said that locals, Village Defence Guards (VDGs) and volunteers have been mobilized to search the entire stretch of the Nallah for any further casualties or damage.
Meanwhile, authorities issued a high alert for residents of Sanasar and adjoining areas, urging them to remain at safe locations as heavy rainfall continues in the region.
SHO Police Station Batote Vijay Kotwal said the bodies of both the deceased were handed over to their legal-heirs after conducting postmortem by the team of board of doctors and other legal formalities at CHC Batote on Wednesday.
In view of the inclement weather conditions, all the government and private Schools remained closed in Ramban district as a precautionary measure to ensure safety of the students.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha condoled the death of two Government teachers, due to an unfortunate incident of flash-flood in Ramban.
In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor said: “The news of the death of two Government teachers due to unfortunate incident of flash-flood in Ramban is saddening. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May God give them strength to bear this irreparable loss”.
