
Ramban Mar 17: Police on Tuesday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate incidents in Ramnagar area of Udhampur district and recovered heroin from their possession, officials said.
According to official sources, a police team from Police Station Ramnagar, while conducting routine naka checking at Naka Point, intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK14F-8194. During the search, 6.21 grams of heroin were recovered from the rider. The accused has been identified as Raahat Amaan, son of Mohd Farooq Malik, a resident of Kirmoo, Tehsil Ramnagar, presently residing in Ward No. 06, Ramnagar.
In a similar operation, another police team intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK14D-2375 at the same naka point. Upon search, 6.32 grams of heroin were recovered from the rider. He was identified as Saksham Thakur, son of Kewal Singh, a resident of Serial Chakal, Tehsil Basantgarh, currently residing in Ward No. 07, Ramnagar.
Police have registered two separate FIRs, numbered 35 and 36 of 2026, under relevant sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Ramnagar. Further investigation into both cases is underway.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to curbing the menace of drug abuse and urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to illegal drug activities.
