SRINAGAR: Minister for Education Sakeena Itoo on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that around 150 Principals, Lecturers and Teachers are being detached and sent back to their original postings in the School Education Department to address staff shortages in Gurez and other far-flung and rural areas.
The Minister made the statement during Zero Hour in the House while responding to a concern raised by MLA Gurez Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi) regarding the acute shortage of teaching staff in the border region of Gurez.
She said the move has been initiated to streamline academic functioning and ensure uninterrupted educational activities in remote areas, particularly in Gurez and other underserved zones.
The Education Minister further stated that the Directorate of School Education Kashmir has already been directed to complete the process of detachment and reposting without delay. She said the exercise will primarily cover districts including Bandipora, Baramulla, and Srinagar, from where a significant number of teaching staff are currently attached away from their parent institutions.
According to the Minister, the decision is aimed at restoring sanctioned staff positions in their original schools to improve classroom delivery, academic supervision, and overall learning outcomes in remote and rural regions where shortages have been affecting students’ education.
She also made it clear in the House that the Education Department will not entertain transfer or attachment-related representations from any quarters in future, except in cases of genuine health emergencies or marriage grounds, signalling a stricter administrative approach to postings and deputations.
Officials said the move is part of a broader effort to rationalise teaching deployments across Jammu and Kashmir and ensure equitable distribution of human resources in government schools, especially in geographically difficult and border areas like Gurez.
