SRINAGAR: The Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) network in Jammu and Kashmir has expanded to 44,479 route kilometres as of December 31, 2025, the Government of India informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
In a written reply, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia said that 10,809 route kilometres of OFC have been laid in Jammu and Kashmir during the last three financial years (2022–25).
The government also stated that the number of 4G and 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in the Union Territory has increased from 25,113 in March 2022 to 37,180 by December 2025, indicating a significant improvement in telecom infrastructure.
The Centre said that the expansion of optical fibre connectivity under BharatNet and telecom network rollout has improved broadband speed, network reliability and digital access, enabling wider use of e-governance, online education, telemedicine and digital payment services.
It further informed that enhanced connectivity has improved access to digital services in rural and remote areas through Common Service Centres and other digital platforms. (KNO)
